Ancient Villa Armira
The most visited attraction in Ivaylovgrad area - villa Armira is located 5 km south of hotel Luxor. The official discovery of this ancient Roman villa was in 1964 when during the construction of a reservoir the workers found remains of a house. The villa belonged to a Thracian aristocrat, who received for services the status of a Roman citizen, and built a holiday residence in 1-3 A.C. At this time, this was the most impressive and rich private villa in Bulgarian land.
The water supply for the villa's pool, and all other necessities of the residence were drawn from the Armira river which is a tributary of Arda river. The walls and columns were nicely decorated with frescoes. The most important and unique of the villa Armira was the mosaic portrait in the owner's bedroom, picturing the owner with his two children. The villa is restorated and opened for visits. More information HERE
