Dupkata nature site
Close to the old centre Ivaylovgrad on a hill the protected nature area Dupkata is situated. Dupkata is just 1,5 kilometre away from Ivaylovgrad. In this 6,5 ha large area up to 350 plant species grow at the limy soil. One of the most interesting family is the one of the orchids, represented by 13 species. Orchids like Ophrys mammosa, Himantoglossum caprium and orchis papilionacea occur here. Besides the orchids also several endemic species for the Balkans can be seen like Stachys leucoglossa, Onobrychis degenii and Achillea clypeolata.
Dupkata is not only a hotspot for interesting plans species, also a variety of animals live there like the Balkan Wall lizard, Blotched snake, the Caspian Whipsnake and several bird species.
It is strongly recommended to visit Dupkata site with a local nature guide because the site is protected.
